Overview
This is the restoreit policy center — how we handle your device, your data, and your account, written to be read, not buried. Use the menu to jump to any policy. Each one applies whenever you use restoreit or the restoreit recovery engine.
How restoreit works with your data
- Read-only. We take a read-only handle to your device and stream its sectors to the cloud. Zero write operations touch the source.
- Processed in the cloud. Carving, scoring, and reconstruction happen on restoreit infrastructure, not on the drive you are trying to save.
- You decide. You preview recoverable files and confidence scores, then choose what to restore. You only pay once your files are verified and visible.
- Encrypted & yours. Files you keep are AES-256 encrypted in your vault. You can download, share, or delete them at any time.
Where to go next
- Privacy — what we collect and how it is used.
- Security & data — how your data is protected end to end.
- Data retention — how long we keep things, by plan.
- Contact — how to reach restoreit.
Privacy policy
This policy explains what restoreit collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to restoreit.ai, the recovery engine, the account dashboard, and the client portal.
Information we collect
- Account details you provide at sign-up — your name and email. restoreit uses passwordless sign-in, so we do not store passwords.
- Recovery metadata needed to run a job — device type and name, sector counts, connection method, detected-file records, and confidence scores.
- Recovered file contents you choose to keep, encrypted at rest in your vault.
- Billing information, processed by our payment provider. restoreit does not store full card numbers.
- Usage and diagnostic data — basic logs needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.
How we use it
- To run your recovery, deliver your files, and keep your vault available.
- To authenticate you, send one-time access codes, and process billing.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
- To answer your questions and improve recovery quality.
How streamed data is handled
During a recovery, device sectors are streamed read-only to a transient cloud buffer, carved, scored, and reconstructed. Raw capture data is held only for the time needed to process your job and is then discarded. Files you choose to keep are encrypted and moved to long-term storage in your vault. See Data retention.
Service providers
restoreit shares the minimum data necessary with the infrastructure providers that power the service. We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising.
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Edge delivery, authentication, and recovery compute. |
| Backblaze B2 | Encrypted long-term storage for your vault. |
| Stripe | Subscription and one-time payment processing. |
Your rights & choices
- Access and export your recovered files from your dashboard at any time.
- Delete individual files, or close your account and remove your data.
- Request a copy of the personal data associated with your account.
- Manage non-essential cookies from your browser — see Cookies.
International transfers, children & changes
restoreit operates in the cloud and may process data in regions where our providers operate, with appropriate safeguards. The service is not directed to children under 13. If this policy changes materially, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Questions? See Contact.
Terms of service
These terms govern your use of restoreit. By creating an account or running a recovery, you agree to them.
The service
restoreit provides cloud-based file recovery. You authorize restoreit to read your connected device in read-only mode and to process the captured data in the cloud to detect, score, reconstruct, and deliver recoverable files. restoreit never writes to the source device.
Eligibility & authorization
- You must own the device and data you submit, or be authorized to recover them.
- You are responsible for confirming you have the legal right to recover the data before you begin.
- You must keep the device connected and powered during capture.
Accounts & access
Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email. Enterprise access is verified by company domain. You are responsible for safeguarding access to the email associated with your account and for activity under your account.
Plans & billing
Membership keeps your encrypted vault and lets you scan any device; each recovery is billed when you unlock verified files. Partner packs cover a set number of recoveries per month for delivery to your clients; Enterprise covers a monthly volume of restores across your organization. Monthly volumes reset each period and do not carry over. Plans are managed from your dashboard. See Billing & refunds.
Acceptable use
Your use must comply with our Acceptable use policy. We may suspend accounts that violate it.
Intellectual property
restoreit and its software, branding, and content are owned by restoreit. Your recovered files remain yours — restoreit claims no ownership of your data.
Disclaimers & liability
The service is provided "as is." restoreit recovers what is recoverable and does not guarantee that every file can be restored. To the maximum extent permitted by law, restoreit is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the recovery at issue. See Disclaimers.
Termination & changes
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms. We may update these terms; material changes are reflected in the date above.
Acceptable use
restoreit is a tool for recovering your own data. This policy keeps it that way.
Permitted
Recovering files you own, or are clearly authorized to recover, for lawful purposes — your photos, documents, footage, archives, and project files from drives, cards, USB devices, and phones.
Prohibited
- Recovering data from devices you do not own or lack permission to access.
- Using restoreit for unlawful, fraudulent, infringing, or harmful purposes.
- Attempting to recover another person's data without their authorization.
- Reverse-engineering, probing, overloading, or interfering with the recovery engine or infrastructure.
- Reselling or sublicensing the service except under an active Partner plan.
Enforcement
Accounts that violate this policy may be suspended or terminated. Where required, we cooperate with lawful requests from authorities.
Security & data handling
Security is built into every step of a recovery — from the read-only handle on your device to the encrypted vault that holds your files.
How your data is protected
- Read-only capture. A read-only block handle means zero disk-write operations on your source device.
- Encryption in transit. Sectors stream to the cloud over encrypted channels.
- Encryption at rest. Recovered files are AES-256 encrypted in your vault.
- Transient buffers. Raw streamed data is held in a transient buffer and discarded after processing unless you choose to keep recovered files.
- Sandboxed verification. Integrity test-opens run in an isolated sandbox, never on your device.
Access controls
- Passwordless sign-in with one-time codes — no stored passwords to leak.
- Enterprise access is verified by company domain; admins and custodians see only their organization's restores.
- Share links can be time-limited, locked with a code, capped by download count, and revoked at any time.
Infrastructure & reporting
restoreit runs on hardened cloud infrastructure (Cloudflare for delivery and compute, Backblaze B2 for encrypted storage, Stripe for payments). If you believe you have found a security issue, contact security and we will investigate promptly.
Data retention
How long restoreit keeps your data depends on what it is and which plan you are on. You are always in control of your recovered files.
| Data | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Raw capture buffer | Discarded after your recovery job completes — held only for the time needed to process it. |
| Recovered files — one-time recovery | Kept in your vault for about 30 days so you can download them. |
| Recovered files — Membership, Partner, Enterprise | Kept long-term while your plan is active, so you can re-access them later. |
| Share links | Expire on the schedule you set (24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days) or when you revoke them. |
| Account & recovery metadata | Retained while your account is open; removed on account closure, subject to legal and accounting requirements. |
Deletion & account closure
You can delete individual recovered files from your dashboard at any time. Closing your account removes your vault and associated personal data, except where we are required to retain limited records (for example, billing history) to meet legal obligations.
Billing & refunds
Every plan is managed from your dashboard, and you always see what you are paying for before you pay.
Billing
- Membership bills monthly and keeps your encrypted vault active.
- Recovery is charged per recovery, once your files are verified and visible.
- Partner packs bill monthly per pack of recoveries; add packs as your volume grows.
- Enterprise bills monthly for a company-wide volume of restores.
Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Monthly volumes reset each period and do not carry over.
Cancellation
Cancel a subscription anytime from your dashboard. Your encrypted vault stays available through the end of the paid period.
Refunds
All sales are final. restoreit does not provide refunds on memberships, recoveries, or add-ons. Because you preview exactly what can be recovered before you commit, you only purchase once you can see what is recoverable. You can cancel your membership at any time from your dashboard to stop future charges, and your encrypted vault stays available through the end of the paid period.
Taxes
Prices are exclusive of applicable taxes, which are added where required.
Cookie policy
restoreit uses a small number of cookies — most are essential to running a recovery.
Essential cookies
These keep you signed in, hold your recovery session together, and protect against abuse. The service does not work without them.
Analytics cookies
Optional cookies help us understand how the product is used so we can improve recovery quality and the experience. They are not used for advertising.
Managing cookies
You can clear or block non-essential cookies from your browser settings at any time. Blocking essential cookies may prevent recovery from working.
Disclaimers
We want you to know exactly what restoreit can and cannot promise.
Recovery is not guaranteed
restoreit recovers what is recoverable. It cannot guarantee that every lost file can be brought back — particularly where storage has been overwritten, fully reformatted, or physically damaged. That is why you preview detected files and confidence scores before you commit.
Confidence scores
A confidence score reflects the likelihood that a file will open cleanly, based on a safe, sandboxed test-open. A score indicates likelihood, not certainty; a "partial" result means some data may be missing.
Provided "as is"
The service is provided "as is" and "as available." restoreit reads your device without writing to it, but you are responsible for confirming you are authorized to recover the data you submit.
Contact
The fastest way to reach restoreit is to ask — restoreit has full context on your recovery, your files, billing, and these policies, and answers right away.
